Replica IWC Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41: 2 Mercedes-AMG stoppers with tachymeter bezel
Replica IWC is strengthening its bond with Mercedes-AMG with a new sub-line. The distinguishing feature of the IWC Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG watches is a narrow bezel with a tachymeter scale and the cases made of titanium and Ceratanium. So the pilot’s chronograph was changed to the basic model.
Even if it may seem surprising at first glance, the two watches IWC Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG and the IWC Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team are definitely new territory for the watch manufacturer from Schaffhausen. Because the two watches, for which the text length of the model description is of epic length, are based on the well-known IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph in 41 mm in terms of size and movement. However, IWC seeks to bring the pilot’s watch down to earth, or more precisely, the race track, with the introduction of further design features, in particular the introduction of a fixed bezel with tachymeter.
The dimensions of the Performance Chronograph Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Stopper initially remain within the known limits. With a diameter of 41.1 mm, a height of 14.8 mm and a lug width of 50.8 mm, the watches with their polished case made of robust grade 5 titanium or the titanium ceramic Ceratanium with a matt finish deliver the well-known ones Basic data of the classic pilot’s chronograph.
Thanks to the housing materials, however, it has the advantages of a compact, portable size, light weight and high resistance to scratches and scrapes. (We had already presented the IWC Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Top Gun Ceratanium and its high-tech case material here on Uhrenkosmos.)
The structure of the dial of the IWC Performance Chronographs is also initially based on the structure of the iconic pilot’s watch. In addition to the dark dial with the sword-shaped, luminescent hands and the day of the week and date display at 3 o’clock, these include the chronograph subdials with the small, continuous seconds at 6 o’clock, as well as the 30-minute and 12-hour totalizer displays at 12 o’clock and 9 a.m.

But that’s where the design similarities with the existing 41 mm chronograph end. Driven by the desire to create an automotive reference with a narrow bezel with a tachymeter scale, the need to move the Roman numerals of the dial inwards was born. Since the totalizers received a beveled edge and smaller hands, but their base area remained the same, the subdials on the performance chronographs now protrude into the numbers on the left half of the dial. Although this fact doesn’t exactly help with reading the numbers, it does underline the importance of the totalizer dials on the IWC Mercedes-AMG Performance Chronographs.
For this reason, the two 4 Hz chronographs were also provided with a subtle second division that is accurate to the fifth of a second. Another difference is the high quality of the numbers and indices. While these are only printed on normal pilot chronographs, the numbers and indices on performance chronographs, which are provided with plenty of luminous material, are now applied and set in high-quality metal.

While, as described, a lot of design work went into launching this new motorsport-driven sub-line with a tachymeter scale, important technical achievements of the watch remained unchanged. The IWC Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronographs with their screw-down crowns offer sporty water resistance of up to 100 meters.
The anti-reflective, slightly curved sapphire crystal above the dial and the screw-down sapphire crystal base are also robust and scratch-resistant. Unlike the normal chronograph, the sapphire crystal backs of the two performance chronographs are colored smoke-colored, or the Mercedes-AMG Chrono still has the printed AMG emblem in the middle of the glass back, while the Mercedes-AMG Petronas stopper has a printed lettering on the edge of the glass back limited.

Through the glass back you can see the attractive automatic IWC manufacture caliber 69385, consisting of 242 components and 33 jewels, with a skeletonized rotor and IWC brand emblem. The column wheel control movement, which operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, offers a power reserve of approximately 46 hours and has the display of hours, minutes, small seconds, day of the week and chronograph with central seconds as well as 30-minute and 12-hour totalizers .
