Replica Audemars Piguet

The second watch from the [Re]Master series by the Le Brassus manufactory, with its peculiar shapes, refers to the asymmetric model from the early 1960s.

In 2020, quite unexpectedly even for the most seasoned fans, Replica Audemars Piguet presented the first model from the collection called [Re]Master. The re-edition of the chronograph from 1943 was enthusiastically received by those who especially value the history of the brand and do not necessarily expect only new Royal Oak references from it. 4 years after that premiere, collectors who had been patiently waiting for the sequel were even more surprised. The second watch in the line reproduces the reference 5159BA from the early 1960s.

Brutality

The feature that definitely distinguishes the original and its quite faithful, contemporary re-edition is the asymmetry and angular forms of brutalism – a trend in architecture in the late 1940s. The unusual (to put it very mildly) envelope has an irregular shape, many edges and satin-finished surfaces. A rectangular, chamfered sapphire glass on the right side is fitted to the shape of the casing, following the form of the whole. There is a signed crown on the right side, and the caseback is covered with a round sapphire glass.

The watch is made of “sand gold” – an alloy of gold, copper and palladium. The color is muted and falls somewhere between rose gold and white gold, depending on the angle of the light. The case measures 41 mm and is 9.7 mm thick – so it has grown significantly compared to the original, which is only 27.5 mm. It is attached to a navy blue alligator leather strap, which has a matte finish for a visual effect.

Seemingly simple and minimalist, the AP [Re]Master02 dial is composed of many elements. It consists of exactly 12 triangular segments, separated from each other by golden frames. Each element is additionally finished with a sun-brushed finish. AP chose a shade of blue called “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50”. The dial composition is complemented by a white brand logo at 3 and two simple, slim, elegant gold hands.

They are powered by the flat, automatic caliber 7129. The mechanism has a 52-hour power reserve, a 4 Hz balance frequency mounted under the full bridge and is only 2.8 mm thick. The movement visible through the glass of the caseback is crowned with an asymmetrically cut rotor made of 22 ct. gold.
